Monaco’s casino was founded in the middle of the 19th century. Earlier, the principality was a poor agricultural country ruled by Prince Charles III. The idea of building a casino fell to his mother; it was she who brought Francois Blanc to Monaco, a man who successfully ran other European casinos. Blanc founded a company called Societe des Bains de Mer et du Cercle des Etrangers that still manages the casino and other important places in the principality.

Casinos in Monte Carlo are rather strict in order to uphold their professional and historic feel. To start with, anyone who wishes to enter the casino must be at least 18 years old. Further to this there is a strict dress code, men should always wear a jacket and tie whilst women should dress casually. This does not mean casual holiday clothes. Finally the casino restricts gamblers to 30 minutes of gambling time in order to prevent any gamer from getting too carried away chasing losses.
